Memories
walking
then cavorting
skipping along with me Dad
singing a song
inside my head
until we reached the red phone box
where me Dad called his Ma
like he did every Sunday
cos she lived so far
away
then a silver sixpence
fed a machine
for a chocolate bar
that tasted better then
and me Dad did the same
for a packet of ten
and a guilty smoke
on the way home
Absolutely precious. I love it! Brings back sweet memories of my dad as I read.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading this, Barbara. I often write about Dad as he was such a special man. I am so glad yours was too
DeleteAlison,
ReplyDeleteDrifted easily back to my childhood days too when life semed more at ease and easily pleased. I had forgotten about those machines with the chocolate bars and sweets. It was the era of expensive lucky bags and penny mixtures, which lasted for days!! A lovely memory review...

Thank you for your comment Eileen. I think the chocolate was Nestle and it tasted so different to today's choc. Better, somehow. I remember a favourite called Bar Six...sadly no longer available!
